Time For New Appliances? Think Energy Star!

This time of year, many people around Ottawa begin to think about purchasing new appliances, especially refrigerators. Spring is a good time to clean out and trade up! And even if you haven’t yet thought about doing it, maybe you should. Did you know that replacing your current appliances with those newer models that are certified as being ‘ENERGY STAR’ can add up to big savings throughout the year, helping to offset the cost of making the purchase?

In fact, the Canadian Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) reports that ENERGY STAR appliances only receive that certification when they are 10 to 50 percent more energy efficient than comparable products that meet the minimum standards. With that kind of energy savings, it may be enough of an incentive to prompt people to upgrade to a newer model.  Besides, there are some rebates and incentive programs offered by the OEE, in an effort to encourage additional people to upgrade to more energy efficient appliances.
